Samba Notts Senior League Round Up

By Brendan Richardson

15/16 February 2019

In the Samba Nottinghamshire Senior League, supported by Euro Soccer Company, Stapleford Town opened up a five point gap at the top of the Premier Division with a 2-1 win against Sandiacre Town on Friday night. Jack Upton set the ball rolling for Stapleford and Adam Hassell doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after Benjamin Smedley had been brought down just inside the box. Sandiacre reduced the arrears via the head of Jack Bull not long after the break but they couldn’t quite make it back to level terms.

Awsworth Villa are up to second, leapfrogging their opponents Southwell City in the process, thanks to a 3-0 win with all the goals coming from Jake Fisher.

Villa also moved above Cotgrave, who let a two goal lead slip to lose 3-2 to FC Cavaliers. Lee Potts and Lucus Cotterill had put the home side ahead but a brace from David Kolapo and one from Abdou Cole sealed the points for Cavs.

After their 16 game unbeaten record came to an end in midweek Bingham Town got back to winning ways, overcoming Gedling Southbank 6-2. Tom Spencer grabbed a hat-trick, Mike Jepps two and Jay Archer one for Bingham; Thomas Jeffries and Corey Woodhouse replied for Gedling.

After going two down at AFC Dunkirk, Edwin Towers and James Hallam levelled matters for Aslockton & Orston but it was ultimately in vain as the home side went on to win 4-2. Dunkirk’s goals were scored by George Harrison (2), Neil Thompson and Brett Soiza.

A Paul Ireson hat-trick gave Attenborough a 3-0 half time lead at home to Eastwood CFC Development but the visitors, who had Dalton Stephens sent off, struck back through Greg Conn (2) and Dany Tring to take a share of the spoils.

A goal in each half, from Mathew Daley and Tom Haw, was sufficient to see Magdala Amateurs past Wollaton 2-0.

Having picked up their first point since early November in midweek, manager Chris Bennett, appointed in December, now has his first win under his belt after his charges saw off Calverton Miners Welfare 2-1. Kyle Nicholson and Kieran Wall gave Radcliffe a 2-0 half time lead, Calvo pulled one back through Stephen Cox but Olympic held on for the win.

In Division One, after suffering their first defeat of the season last weekend, leaders Woodthorpe Park Rangers made amends with a 5-1 win at Selston Reserves, including a brace for Markell Bailey.

Ravenshead held onto second place as they won by a similar scoreline on Friday night against Mansfield Hosiery Mills with a hat-trick from Brent Horton and two from Martin McDonagh.

Samuel Robinson scored two for Southwell City Reserves in their 5-2 victory over Awsworth Villa Reserves but the weekend’s biggest winners were Burton Joyce who dispatched Kimberley Miners Welfare 13-0, including hat-tricks for Mark Faflik, Dean Gent and Nathan Francis.

Liam Honeyman bagged a brace for Bridgford United in their 4-2 win over Kirton Brickworks and Ewan Hill did likewise for Basford United Community in their 5-0 win over Bestwood Miners Welfare.

Beeston beat Wollaton Reserves 5-1 and AFC Bridgford came away from Radford Reserves with a 1-0 victory.

In Division Two, AFC Top Valley have opened up a three point lead following their 7-1 win over AFC Clifton while Ruddington Village Reserves went down 3-1 to Keyworth United Development.

Newark Flowserve Reserves are a further three points behind but with two games in hand after they beat Sneinton Town 2-0.

Robin Hood Colts saw off Nottingham Community 3-0 and Barrowby overcame Elston United 2-1.
