Samba Notts Senior League Round Up

By Brendan Richardson

5th January 2019

Southwell City’s lead in the Samba Nottinghamshire Senior League, supported by Euro Soccer Company, Premier Division is down to two points after they lost 1-0 at Magdala Amateurs while Stapleford Town triumphed 4-2 in a tempestuous encounter at Calverton Miners Welfare. Calverton had twice led in the match with James Davis putting them ahead after an Adam Hassell penalty had cancelled out Ethan Hunter’s opener. The hosts were down to nine men at this point as Alex Clarson had received his marching orders for a late tackle in the first half and Ethan Hunter went following an altercation with James McKeever that also saw the Stapleford player sent for an early bath. Hassall levelled from the spot once more after George Scrivener had brought him down in the box. A late Mitchell Robinson header and Hassall tapping in for his hat-trick completed the turnaround.

Ryan Clements struck for Magdala in the 87th minute to secure the points against Southwell, after it looked like his side’s chance had gone following an earlier missed penalty.

Cotgrave consolidated third place with a 2-0 win at Gedling Southbank but had to ride their luck at 0-0 when the hosts missed a penalty. Gethyn Tustin and Harvey Grice were the scorers.

Kieran Driver set AFC Dunkirk on their way to a 5-0 win against Awsworth Villa. There was also two apiece for Danny Blanchard and Lorcan Hickey.

Bingham Town made it 12 league games unbeaten with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Sandiacre Town. An Ed Hodgson lob put Bingham in the ascendency before they were pegged back by Jordan Smith. Mike Jepps put the visitors ahead for good in the second half.

New Radcliffe Olympic manager Chris Bennett was close to seeing his new side pick up their first points under his guidance but two late Keyworth United goals from Cameron Gray and Scott Litchfield dashed his hopes.

Aslockton & Orston came from to down to Attenborough to win 4-2. Adam Martin and Liam McCormack put Boro ahead but doubles from Julian Joachim and Rob Lakin saw the visitors take the spoils.

Wollaton ran out 5-0 winners at Bilborough Town with goals from Reece Strode (2), Joshua Stevenson, Adam Whitemore and Fady Benattayallam while, on Friday night, FC Cavaliers edged past Eastwood CFC Development 1-0 thanks to David Kolapo.

Woodthorpe Park Rangers’ lead in Division One is up to 19 points following their 4-0 win at Bestwood Miners Welfare, with the goals shared between Markell Bailey, Dean Bussey, Adam Forry and Connor Carter.

Second placed Burton Joyce slipped to only their third defeat of the season, 2-0 at Mansfield Hosiery Mills. Blake Vincent scored his first goal for the Millers alongside an own goal.

Alex Goodall and substitute Zudane Rico Richardson gave Basford United Community a 2-0 win at Wollaton Reserves.

Kirton Brickworks equalised in the 88th minute at AFC Bridgford to take a share of the points in a 3-3 draw and Awsworth Villa Reserves similarly levelled late on in their 2-2 draw with Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves.

Southwell City Reserves beat Radford Reserves while Beeston went one better with a 5-1 win over Selston Reserves.

The top two in Division Two at the start of the day, AFC Top Valley and Ruddington Village Reserves, swapped places despite both sides winning. Ruddington’s goal difference is one better than Top Valley’s after they won 4-0 at home to Barrowby while Alex MacPhee’s side beat AFC Clifton 5-2, including a hat-trick for Ben Cummings.

Stapleford Town Reserves edged out Ravenshead Reserves 1-0 but there were goals aplenty in all the other games: Daniel Tyson grabbed a hat-trick for Robin Hood Colts in their 11-0 win at Nottingham Community, Callum Barnes scored four for Newark Flowserve Reserves as they overcame Kirton Brickworks Reserves 8-1 and there were three apiece for Jack Palmer and Thomas Siswick for Keyworth United Development as they saw off Magdala Amateurs Reserves 9-0.

Elston United beat Sneinton Town 6-0 and Bingham Town Reserves won 5-0 against Cotgrave Reserves.
