Tough Day But Heads Never Fell
By Dave Martindale
Radcliffe were put to the sword today by a very good Beeston side. Three very early goals set the home team up for an easier ride than usual.
Radcliffe were three down within 4 minutes and never really recovered in a tough game where having just 11 available players made the scoreline flatter the opposition as players tired towards the end.
A couple of the goals were tough on Radcliffe and the remainder of the half the boys really knuckled down and showed they were a match for Beeston. On a different day the chances that came would have been taken and Radcliffe could have even been level.
Eventually the pressure we exerted paid off and a nice pick up from Ollie Petchell in the centre fell for Ollie Jones-Wilkinson to drive home for 3-1 (22).
Fin Jackson could have further reduced the arrears with a lovely free kick that rattled the bar but at half time it was 3-1.
The next goal was always going to be critical and unfortunately it came just a minute in from a set piece. A corner that was nodded in for 4-1 (41) and Radcliffe had a mountain to climb.
The boys never stopped searching for a goal but their shape was compromised and Beeston were clinical on the break, tucking home four more goals for 8-1.
George Arrowsmith capped the game off with a consolation on 74 mins to make it 8-2 but that’s how it stayed.
One to forget for Radcliffe today. Man of the match goes to Connor Bland for a battling performance with some good work down the wing and a few crosses that could have been tucked away.
