EMCL: Radcliffe Olympic 0 Aylestone Park 2
By Brendan Richardson
Unbeaten run ended
Radcliffe's unbeaten run came to an emphatic end as Aylestone ran out comfortable winners at Wharf Lane.
For the home side the game hinged on the first 20 minutes when they were the better side but failed to take any of the chances they created. The best one fell to Liam Motson who did all the hard work first but then miskicked when just 5 yards from goal. Jan Yeomans also had a couple of half chances as Radcliffe pressed for the lead.
A little against the run of play, Aylestone took the lead after a defensive mix up, their striker alert and capitalised by lobbing Rocky Bennett from 15 yards. Thereafter, the Leicester side were always in the ascendancy and looked comfortable as Radcliffe huffed and puffed with only Ian Marley looking likely to upset their domination.
Half Time: 0-1
Radcliffe made a double change at the break in order to try and get some momentum back. Jawanza Grant and Jack Smith replacing Motson and Conor Moore and whilst they undoutedly added energy to the attack, Radcliffe still couldn't create anything clear-cut. Aylestone got the cushion of a second goal after another defensive error on 49 minutes and that left Olympic with a mountain to climb. They worked hard but lacked quality and it wasn't until the 88th minute that Jack Smith produced their first effort on target.
Full Time: 0-2
The fact that centre half Wes Spencer was clearly Radcliffe's man of the match probably summed up where most of the action was.
