And
DANIEL HEGARTY SON’S TRUST FUND

Wednesday 26th December 2018

Radcliffe Olympic XI 4 - 3 Radcliffe Olympic Vets

Once again there was a great turnout from the players to take part in the Radcliffe Olympic Boxing Day Charity match. It included some who have not missed a match since the trophy was introduced, whilst others took part for the very first time. A special mention for the two guest players from VV Wiren FC who travelled from Holland to take part in the match.
The Vets squad were missing a number of regulars due to late withdrawals, but despite that manager Glyn Woodhouse still managed to put out a strong team including former and current club chairman John Bower and Rick Bright. Both sides produced some high-quality football in an entertaining match in which the result was in balance until the final minutes when Andy Clifford for the Vets saw his penalty kick strike the bar and away to safety. It allowed the Select Team Manager Chris Norris to regain the trophy with a 4–3 win.
The post-match hospitality was again provided at the British Legion hall where the Select Team captain Paul Harrison (Harry) stepped up to receive the Charity Cup. Harry gave a colourful acceptance speech before entertaining a crowded hall of players and supporters with his own special rendition of the George Michael classic of Last Christmas. Following a microphone malfunction Harry took over the raffle draw to delight the crowd with more of his unique style of entertainment!

It turned out to be another hugely successful day. Once all the monies have been received we will have raised a record amount in excess of £3,000 in aid of the nominated charities – HELP for HEROES and the Daniel Hegarty trust fund. How things have moved on since first time we started playing for the trophy and raised £180!

Our thanks go to JRT Insurance (Rick Bright), FWP Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (Paul Watts), DAR Building Services (Raff), Walter Harrison & Sons (Steve Brown), Soal Glass & Glazing (Lee Soal), Simple Marketing Consultancy (Bev & Elliot Cook), Resolve Recruitment Solutions Ltd. (Garry & Bev), Humberts (Dan & Lucy), Draycott’s Pest Control (Anthony Draycott) and Buildbase (Paul Roche, Sara Dowzell) for jointly providing the sponsorship of the match.

Also to the Golf Clubs, Pubs, Nottingham Greyhound Stadium, A.W.Lymn, companies and individuals who provided an outstanding array of raffle prizes.

Our thanks also go to Brendan for compiling the program and John Bower at European Conveyor Systems for printing them. Scott for the marking out the pitch and running the Tea Bar. To Kayli, Stella and Bev for their amazing ticket sales and help with the raffle; to the British Legion for the after-match hospitality and Julie at Snack Stop for the buffet along with Richard Stone for the posters and photos. To the managers Glyn and Chris, Bob Norris for refereeing, players and supporters on the day and to those who were unable to be there but made generous donations, along with any others that I may have failed to mention.

Wishing everyone a happy 2019.
