It's the Metaphor Master's week off the match reporting, so Simon and Matt can breathe out.....
He may still be looking for tea lights in IKEA but it is more likely that he's been banned from every Derbyshire borough with an under 10's football team. As it's a home match next week, normal business and match reporting will resume......
This week though the Blues were away against Breaston Park Black. The fact that half of the team were wearing the home kit and half were wearing the away kit seemed an ominous start. And a slow start it was. Radcliffe were slow out the blocks and there was an air of quietness throughout the team.
Breaston took the initiative early on & relentlessly attacked. As always the rock that is Sanju was tackling well and clearing out any danger. Johnny was this week between the sticks & was in very fine form pulling off a handful of saves which kept the Blues in the game.
Things looked more promising towards the end of the first half with Joe flying down the right wing and crossing for Kyle who couldn't quite connect.
Half time came and went with the score at 0-0.
The second half started completely differently. Radcliffe were like their old selves....Henry picked the ball up on the right wing, ghosting past a few of the opposition to pass the ball to Bob who carried on his goal fest slotting past the Breaston keeper to make it 1-0!
This obviously gave Radcliffe the confidence they needed. They carried on attacking out wide with Joe and Kyle each threatening the oppositions goal.
Breaston did break through some solid mid field tackling by Jonty but Charlie was also having a no nonsense game with some fine tackling of his own.
Jacob was living up to his new title of the 'pocket Ninja' beating players & getting plenty of shots on target only for the Breaston keeper to save them well.
The second goal came with some more fine work from Bob who found Kyle in the box. Kyle finished well and made it 2-0!
Radcliffe were now playing some amazing football, limiting Breaston to long range shots which Johnny continued to save. His celebrations are a sight to behold! Particularly when followed up with a cheeky wink to the ref....!
Radcliffe were then 3-0 up with another great run by Bob ending in an amazing header by Kyle who was having a stormer of a game.
With around 10 minutes to go the tackles started flying in from Breaston. Jacob earned a free kick which Bob fired just over the bar.
Radcliffe continued to battle with constant attacking, some great tackling and shots on target by both Joe & Bob.
Just before the end of the game Bob scored again wrapping up the game with Henry splitting the defence with a through ball to Bob who once again finished with aplomb. 4-0!!
To sum up, the first half didn't set the world on fire but a great team display in the second half against a tough Breaston side.
