A stunning second half performance sees Radcliffe through to the next round

A game of two halves! You bet. When the half-time whistle blew Radcliffe were happy to go in to the break goalless. A strong Linby side had caused problems with their early energy. But Radcliffe had soaked up the pressure well. And yet again Emma had a fine match in goal. Radcliffe’s chances were few. Carys powered her way into the penalty box, but there were too many home defenders in the way. A change of plan in the second half soon brought rewards.

Katie, who played in several different positions during the match, made an immediate impact on the right side of midfield. Her presence gave others more time and space. And Radcliffe took the lead when Grace’s shot fell to Mia, who fed Flo for an early goal. The second soon followed, with Mia bravely making her way through the Linby defence. Radcliffe were now running the game, so it was a surprise and a setback when they failed to clear a cross and conceded.

But Radcliffe were still in command - and a powerful run from Immie split the defence before she played the perfect ball for Flo to run on to....and Flo scored her second. It was inevitable that more would follow. And Molly almost became the next scorer as she forced her way into the box. Yet it was Flo again who found the net. This time showing a new side to her game. She was tenacious in competing for the ball with the goalkeeper and was rewarded when her shot from an acute angle curled in.

Erin had played well in midfield. And her tireless energy deserved a goal. But her shot hit the post. Emily and Belle worked neatly on the left to create a couple of opportunities - but the next and final goal finally fell to Erin.

This was a good performance against a powerfull team with Katie edging out Mia for player of the match for her versatile performance in defence, midfield and attack.

A special mention to parents Rob and Andy for running the line, as competition hots up for Linesman of the Year. As well as carrying the flag, they even got some decisions right! (only joking)
