At a bitterly cold Bingham Road Radcliffe moved to the semi-finals of the plate for the second time with a good performance against West Bradford. But for a string of missed chances this would have been a much easier victory.
Radcliffe started brightly and took an early lead. Flo's shot was heading toward the goal - but the heavy ground saw it stop just before the line. But Maddie was following through to take the lead. It was great to see Maddie back to her best and contributing lots from the right wing. She helped set up a number of chances. Emily came very close to stretching the lead. And long range efforts from Immie and Katie tested the visiting keeper. The second goal eventually came when Mia found the corner from just inside the penalty area - a goal skilfully set up by Erin. Bradford looked dangerous on the break - and both Grace and Emma had to be alert to the threats. Both had excellent games.
It was 2-0 at half time. A half at times played in sleet with a biting wind. The weather improved little in the second half, where Radcliffe stepped up the effort. Maddie got her second after a good built up from Erin and Flo. There were chances for Mia, Keira and Maddie. And Erin had a shot well saved. But Radcliffe were given a shock when Bridgford scored on the break to make it 3-1. Radcliffe were tiring, and Bridgford had more opportunities. But the defence and Emma kept them out. And the full time whistle was really welcome to allow everyone to warm up. Mia was awarded player of the match for her tireless work in midfield.
