There was an emphatic start to the season for the girls who cruised to victory at Moorgreen. The first goal of the campaign took under two minutes when Erin hit a long range shot with perfection. A second soon followed as Mia struck from a left wing corner.
The comfortable lead saw Radcliffe relax too much – and the coaching team demanded more urgency as the girls struggled to make progress. There were too many passes going astray – and stronger teams will punish these errors.
A third goal with half-time approaching got them back on track. Immie found the top corner with a shot from 20 yards. It was the start of a goal-rush. Maddy netted from a corner, Erin got her second and Keira put Maddy in for her second.
6-0 at half time looked good. But the coaches wanted more life in the game. They were pleased with the defence. Emma, in goal, made an important contribution and her kicking from hand was terrific. Emily, Katie, Grace and Immie worked well as a back line and gave Moorgreen few opportunities.
The second half was much better for Radcliffe – and the goals kept coming. Belle scored number 7 with a fiery shots from her toes. At last, Flo made the scoresheet – going on to get a second-half hat-trick with a range of finishes. Molly came ever so close to adding her name to the list of scorers – twice forcing scrambled clearances.
But the goal-scoring star was Maddy. Who added two more to make in four in all. A costly day for Frank!! With Grace curling one past the keeper it made for a 13-0 win. Future matches will no doubt be harder. But this should give the team confidence around the pitch to take on to the rest of the season.
Coach Mark picked up Maddy for her contribution but was delighted with the way everyone picked up their game. And the opposition manager selected Mia as their Player of the Match.
