Radcliffe almost pulled off an unlikely victory after going 3 goals down. The team had a poor first half. Made worse when Blidworth scored with the last kick of the half to go two goals down, the first of two own goals conceded from corners. Coach Mark wanted more from everyone in the second half. And they responded brighly - but were hit with a breakaway goal to make it 3-0. It would have been easy for heads to drop. But the girls battled on. The team changed formation with the hard working Amber in defence making way for Katie up front. Amber showed great sportsmanship understanding the situation. And 30 seconds later Radcliffe had pulled a goal back when Erin turned in one of Edie’s wicked corners. Radcliffe were doing most of the pressing and Freya slipped in to narrow the gap. But once again Radcliffe were caught out and went 4-2 down. A long range shot from Immie meant it would be a tense finish. And Katie was first to a corner to level things at 4-4.
There were a few nervous moments - but Emma in goal and Grace in defence were looking more assured as the game progressed and Edie and Erin were taking more control in midfield. Katie’s strength up front was now an issue for Blidworth who also had to cope with Freya’s pace. Whilst Molly, Izzy and Emily battled away on the wings. In the end Radcliffe looked the most likely winners and twice came close. But there were no complaints about the second half and it was great to see such a spirited second half.
