West Bridgford really showed their quality tonight, but at least for the first half Radcliffe matched them and unsettled them. 2 goals from quite far out gave us a lot of early catching up to do, but within 30 seconds, we were back at 2-1, courtesy of Joshua Jones-Wilkinson with an incredible run and quality finish.
A questionable foul then led to a well taken WB free kick, hit powerfully into our bottom corner.
Heads did not go down though, and not long after, back in the game at 3-2 with Ollie Skinner providing for Oliver Jones-Wilkinson.
Half time and WB were looking rattled in a game they may have thought won in the first 10 minutes.
Second half, and WB came out fighting. Conditions had deteriorated and it could be argued that their looping 4th goal was wind assisted, but in all honesty, it shocked everyone, including Bridgford, that both sides seemed to just watch as it crept into goal for 4-2.
Radcliffe still had plenty of chances, but WB were now starting to enjoy themselves, and their grip on the game intensified. One more goal came to end at 5-2.
Given how even the first half was, the scoreline may look harsh, but West Bridgford are not top of the table for nothing, and tonight they showed their quality. The good news is that we face them again on Saturday, with a few lessons learned, and a squad of boys ready for revenge, and in no way fearful. If we can keep the first half performance up, it'll be a corker.
MOTM Joshua Jones-Wilkinson. Great mix of grit, determinations and style, epescially in the first half.
