Honours Even in an Entertaining 1-1 Draw

Radcliffe and Rolls Royce put aside their differences and played out a very entertaining 1-1 draw in difficult conditions.

Radcliffe v Rolls Royce is always a very competitive affair and it was just a pity that the pitch was so damp and difficult today after all the rain.

Both sets of boys got stuck in though and treated the small crowd to a feast of competitive football.

Rolls stroked the ball around well and had a few early chances but Harvey Woodward was in good form and managed to smother, ably assisted by a strong back line.

Chances were at a premium in the first half with both defensive units on top and it was goalless at the whistle.

The second half saw the game open up a little more with tired legs on both sides and Ollie Jones-Wilkinson was unlucky with a few shots just blocked. Jack Willis and Fin Jackson were getting stuck in well in the centre and with Malahku Selassie brought on at the half to provide a striker’s threat down the left it was only a matter of time.

On the hour, a beautiful through ball from Fin Jackson saw Malahku Selassie stroke the ball home for 1-0 (61) and a lead that was just deserved on the balance of chances.

You’re never more vulnerable though than when you’ve just scored and Rolls Royce showed great tenacity to bring things level with a nice cross from the right drilled home for 1-1 (64).

The remainder of the game was played with chances at both ends, Nathan Stocks with a beautiful cross that nearly saw Malahku Selassie get his brace and Nathan Stocks with a smart shot that was just parried wide a couple of the highlights for Radcliffe.

Harry Timson-Smith and Will Quilter were commanding at the corners and Harvey Woodward had a few smart saves to make before the final whistle brought a very entertaining game to a na end with honours shared.

My man of the match today was Jack Willis who put in some really telling challenges in tough conditions and ran the midfield alongside Fin Jackson.

Next up Wollaton on Tuesday evening.
