Match Report by Ian Taylor:
Radcliffe were the guests of Priory Celtic on a warmish first day of the new season in Nuthall. Radcliffe welcomed two new players Cole and Niamh. Both teams tried to play a passing game but in the first half Priory Celtic were more accomplished at it than Radcliffe and Priory went ahead on 25 minutes. Radcliffe battled and defended well although they were lucky to finish just the one goal down.
The second half started in a similar vein and within 5 minutes Priory were 2 up albeit from a debatable free kick. In the past this would be the sign for a collapse and a heavy defeat. Not on this occasion.
Radcliffe were by far the better team in the second half and Priory were rattled. The lads and lasses played a blinder. Both Jacks hit the bar and on one occasion the Priory goalie managed to tip the ball onto the bar from a JT shot. Joel was on great form and he scored a fantastic goal despite the goalie getting a hand to it to reduce the deficit by one. A short while later he almost did the same thing again. JM managed to get on the end of a through pass and placed the ball beyond the hands of the despairing goalie to level the score at 2-2. Radcliffe should have won the game when JT had his legs taken away away from him in the penalty box. Unfortunately JT struck the penalty over the bar.
However, the Radcliffe spectators were treated to a great shot from Joel which must have been 40 yards out and a flying save from Henry to keep the score level.
This was a splendid start to the new season and every player played their part as a team. Despite going two goals down they kept plugging away and got their just rewards. This was a very good start to the new season. There is a long way to go but there is no doubt that this was a promising start.
